The University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell) is a research university based in Lowell, Massachusetts. It is part of the University of Massachusetts system.

Behind UMass Amherst, it is the second largest educational facility in the state. The University was originally two separate institutions, which were founded in the 1890s: Lowell State College and Lowell Technological Institute.
