About The Institution

Cranfield University is the UK’s only exclusively postgraduate university. The main campus is located at Cranfield in Bedfordshire, and the second campus is the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom at Shrivenham in Oxfordshire. The Cranfield campus also has a semi-operational airport on campus and is used as part of aerospace teaching and research.
The university was founded as the College of Aeronautics in 1946 and then became the Cranfield Institute of Technology in 1967. It finally settled on the name Cranfield University in 1993, despite it having been a full university since 1969. The name change occurred to better reflect the university’s expansion into courses outside of technology.
The university is split into the School of Aerospace, Transport and Manufacturing, School of Water, Energy and Environment, School of Management and Cranfield Defence and Security.
There are a number of companies, both large and small, located on the Cranfield University Technology Park.
More than half of Cranfield’s students are over 30 years of age and almost half of the students continue to be employed while they study.
